ICA 2017
The Global Conference and General Assembly of the International Co-operatives Alliance (ICA) was held Nov. 14-17, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,
featuring more than 1800 co-operators from around the world for Cooperatives: Putting people at the centre of development.
A delegation of 20 people, consisting of representatives from Iran Chamber of Co-operatives, rural and agricultural co-operatives, and other co-operative
companies represented Iran at ICA 2017. Mr. Alireza Sharafi, Managing Director of Farda Co-operative also attended the Conference on behalf of Iran
Oilseeds and Vegetable Oil Factories Co-operative Company.
The last day of this 4-day event was dedicated to the election of Presidential and Global Board of Directors, whose results were as follows:
- Election of Ariel Guarco from Argentina President of the ICA;
- Election of Board of Directors with candidates from the 15 countries of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, India, Italia, Japan,
- Nepal, Singapore, Sweden, England, and the United States;
- Election of Vice-presidents from Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.
With minimal difference in the vote counts and achieving the 16th position, Mr. Mohamad Ali Zeyghami, the nominated candidate from Iran Chamber of
Co-operatives did not make it to the Board of Directors.
ICA is a non-profit international association established in 1895 to advance the co-operative model. The Alliance is the apex organization for co-operatives
worldwide, representing 284 co-operative federations and organizations across 95 countries (figures of January 2015).
Farda Co-operative has been a member of the International Co-operative Alliance since 2009.
